Forum

The Greek Bioeconomy Forum is a platform which brings close who care for Bio-Economy and Circular Economy. Its action is as a think tank and offers a networking opportunity and exchange of knowledge and experience. The vision of the Greek Bioeconomy Forum is to contribute to the awareness about the Bioeconomy and the Circular Economy. It is as well to highlight the advantages and the opportunities offered in local, peripheral and national level.

At the Greek Bioeconomy Forum people are involved who own managerial or technical knowledge around Bioeconomy and are coming either from the business world, the academic society, the political society and citizens who care to be informed on how to change their lifestyle model towards Bioeconomy thus contributing to longevity of our planet and the welfare of humanity.
The members of the Greek Bioeconomy Forum believe that, based on the characteristics of the country, Bioeconomy can play an important role and can guide the national economy in the decades to come.

Hence, we should recognize and take advantage of the opportunities available. We should take the appropriate actions so as to create the suitable environment in order for the new bio-procedures, bio-products and bio-markets to benefit our whole society.

The Greek Bioeconomy Forum commenced its activity in 2017 and until today its actions are as follows:

Activities

2020

At 8 February 2020 the Greek Bioeconomy Forum in collaboration with the consulting company Q-Plan organized an event for plastics and recycling under the subject “Plastics in a circular economy”. The event has been held at Thessaloniki at the Nikopolis Hotel.
There were presented: Scientific lectures from academic professors, European funding possibilities for companies, tools and strategies for industry transition from plastics to circular and news on commercial compostable and biodegradable products.

Followed by vasilopita pie cutting and reception.

2019

At 10 and 11 of May 2019 the Greek Bioeconomy Forum organized an event for Bioeconomy at the Goethe-Institut of Thessaloniki. In this two-day event, in a literally packed hall, there were many presentations of undiminished interest.
There were presented actions about Bioeconomy in Greece, entrepreneurship in Bioeconomy, postgraduate studies in Bioeconomy, funding opportunities from Greece and European Union, Greek Policies about Bio & Circular Economy. At the same time there were an exhibition of bio-based products. A successful networking was accomplished between Universities, Companies and statal carriers.
Significant speakers honoured the event with their presence: Dr. Christian Patermann, European Commissioner on environment and leader of the wording and adoption of the European strategy and Action Plan for Bioeconomy in Europe. The General Consolate of Germany in Greece Mr. Walter Stechel, the ex-Minister of Environment Mr. Sokratis Famellos, the principal advisor to the Minister of Environment & Energy Mr. Vassilis Liogkas, the Mayor of Thessaloniki Mr. Yiannis Boutaris, Dr. Thomas Vyzikas representing Bio Based Industries Joint Untertaking, Dr. Paolo La Scola representing Novamont SpA, and many honourable speakers.

2018

  • In the middle of the year 2018 the Greek Bioeconomy Forum organized a photograph competition aiming at the hearsay of Bioeconomy to the public. The aim was also to show images of researchers projects and highlight in simple way the research benefit to the society.
